What Is the Melting Pot Used For?

Capping compound is solid at room temperature, so it has to be melted and kept fluid before the ends of concrete cylinders can be capped. The operator loads compound into the pot, sets the thermostat within the 40 to 340 °C range and lets the charge melt with the lift-off cover in place to keep the heat in; molten compound is then ladled into the capping plate or fixture. The lagged steel jacket around the metal container limits heat loss to the room, and the standby heat switch is used between capping runs. Fresh compound is available in 5 kg packs.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of melting pots required.
  • Capping compound — the number of 5 kg packs of capping compound wanted with the pot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Melting Pot used for?
It melts the capping compound used for capping the ends of concrete cylinders that are to be tested, so that the compound can be poured into a capping plate or mould.

How much compound does the pot hold?
The pot capacity is 2.4 litres, with internal dimensions of 140 × 150 mm (height × width) inside an external size of 250 × 165 mm.

What temperature range and power does it have?
The temperature can be set from 40 to 340 °C under thermostatic control, and the melting rated power is up to 750 W.

What power supply is required?
The pot is suitable for operation on a single phase 230 Volts A.C. supply, and it has a standby heat switch in addition to the thermostat.

Is capping compound available?
Yes. Capping compound for the ends of concrete cylinders is also available in 5 kg packs for use with the pot.

How is heat kept in the pot?
The metal container sits in a well-lagged steel jacket and is supplied with a lift-off cover and handle, which together limit heat loss while the compound is molten.
