What Is the Auger Power Head Used For?

Boring by hand becomes slow in firm ground and as the hole gets deeper, so a power head is used to turn the auger with an engine instead. The head drives the auger into the ground and works with a sampling tube, so that soil can be brought up either broken up, as a disturbed sample for identification and index tests, or intact in the tube, as an undisturbed sample for strength and compressibility tests. The 2 HP two stroke head is supplied with its own 80 mm dia. auger, and the 4.5 HP four stroke head has a reversing gear that lets the auger be turned in either direction.
