What Is the Plankton Net Used For?
Plankton are small organisms that drift in water, and they are sampled by drawing a fine net through it: the water passes through the gauze while the organisms are held back and gathered towards the collecting vessel. The operator fixes the net by its universal connecting part, pulls or lowers it through the water, and then opens the bottom to run the concentrated catch into sample bottles for counting and identification. The 65 µm silk gauze retains organisms larger than its mesh, and the green linen cover around the 200 mm ring protects the gauze during use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What mesh size does the Plankton Net have?
The silk gauze has a mesh size of 65 µm, so organisms larger than this are held back while the water passes through.
How is the gauze protected?
The 200 mm galvanised ring is covered with green linen fabric, which protects the gauze from ripping while samples are being taken.
What is supplied with the net?
A 100 ml collecting vessel and a universal connecting part are included with the net.
How are samples transferred to bottles?
The net can be opened at the bottom, so the concentrated catch can be run off directly into the sample bottles.
How does a plankton net collect a sample?
The net is drawn through the water, which passes through the fine gauze while plankton are retained and gathered towards the collecting vessel at the bottom.
