Devel Attrition Tester

Devel Attrition Tester

Product Code : EL-ATLE-10471

Devel Attrition Tester (code EL-ATLE-10471) is a machine for measuring the resistance of aggregates to attrition, in which samples tumble inside two inclined hollow cylinders. The cylinders are closed at one end, fitted with covers and mounted at 30 degrees to the axis of a shaft that a motor turns at 30-33 RPM through a reduction gear; a revolution counter is provided, and an abrasive charge of 12 hardened steel balls of 48 mm diameter is supplied.

What Is the Devel Attrition Tester Used For?

Attrition is the gradual wearing of particles as they rub against one another and against hard surfaces, and this test compares aggregates by how much fine material that wearing produces. A weighed sample and the abrasive charge are sealed in each cylinder, and because the cylinders are inclined to the shaft, the contents slide and tumble from end to end at every turn. After the set number of revolutions on the counter, the material is removed and sieved, and the weight of fines worn off gives the attrition value for the aggregate.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of attrition testers required.
  • Counter — whether the optional digital preset counter is wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Devel Attrition Tester measure?
It measures how well an aggregate resists attrition, the wearing away of particles that occurs as they rub and tumble against each other and the cylinder walls.

How are the cylinders arranged?
Two hollow cylinders, each closed at one end and fitted with covers, are mounted on a shaft at an angle of 30 degrees to its axis of rotation.

At what speed does the shaft rotate?
A motor drives the shaft through a reduction gear at 30-33 RPM, and the revolutions are recorded on the counter provided with the machine.

Can a digital preset counter be fitted?
Yes, a digital preset counter is available as an option, so that the number of revolutions for a test can be set in advance.

What abrasive charge comes with the tester?
It is supplied complete with an abrasive charge of 12 hardened steel balls, each 48 mm in diameter, and it runs on a 440 Volts, three phase, 50 cycles A.C. supply.

Which test standards go with the attrition tester?
Two are named: the standards listed for the Devel Attrition Tester are ASTM D2-33 and IS 2386 (Part IV).
