Chloride Titrator Type
Product Code : EL-ATLE-10491
Chloride Titrator Type (code EL-ATLE-10491) is a chloride test set for measuring the water soluble chloride salts present in a soil or aggregate sample, using a method based on the Volhard method. Chloride titrator strips are offered in packs of 40 in two ranges, 0.005% to 0.1% NaCl and 0.05% to 1% NaCl, and the weight is approximately 10 g.

What Is the Chloride Titrator Type Used For?
Chloride salts in soil or aggregate can corrode steel reinforcement and buried metal, so their content is checked when the material is to be used near concrete or steel. The chloride is first extracted from the sample with water, and the extract is then tested; a titrator strip placed in the solution gives a reading from which the chloride content, expressed as NaCl, is found. The lower range strips cover 0.005% to 0.1% NaCl and the higher range strips 0.05% to 1% NaCl, so the range is chosen to suit the expected chloride level. The standard listed for it is BS 1377:3.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of strip packs required.
- Range — 0.005% to 0.1% NaCl or 0.05% to 1% NaCl strips, in packs of 40.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Chloride Titrator Type measure?
It provides a measurement of the water soluble chloride salts present in a soil or aggregate sample, by a method based on the Volhard method.
Which ranges are available?
Two ranges of chloride titrator strips are offered: 0.005% to 0.1% NaCl and 0.05% to 1% NaCl, each in a pack of 40 strips.
How is the right range chosen?
The lower range of 0.005% to 0.1% NaCl suits material with little chloride, while the 0.05% to 1% NaCl range is used where higher chloride levels are expected.
Why is chloride content checked in soil and aggregate?
Soluble chlorides can cause corrosion of steel reinforcement and other buried metal, so their level is checked before soil or aggregate is used with concrete or steel.
Which standard is listed for the chloride test?
The standard listed for it is BS 1377:3, which covers chemical and electro-chemical tests on soils.
