What Are the G. I. Frame Sieves Used For?
Wet sieving is used when fine particles cling to coarser grains or to each other, so that dry sieving would not separate them: the sample is washed through the sieve with water and the fines are carried away while the coarser fraction stays on the mesh. The operator chooses the aperture sizes needed for the grading, nests sieves of one diameter over the pan, washes the sample through them, and then dries and weighs what each sieve retains. Full height sieves hold larger samples, while half height sieves allow more sieves in a stack of the same height.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — how many sieves are wanted in each aperture size.
- Diameter and height — 200, 300 or 450 mm frame diameter, in the full or half height version.
- Aperture sizes — the sizes required from the list, 125 mm down to 1.00 mm, and whether a lid and pan are needed.
- Frame finish — brass or stainless steel, galvanized, or the powder coated or SS frame option.
