What Is the Miniature Vertical Milling Machine Used For?

Vertical milling uses a cutter turning on a vertical spindle to machine flat faces, slots, steps and pockets, while the same spindle can drill holes with a drill held in a chuck. With the work-piece clamped in the T-slots, the student positions the table with the compound scales and digital readout, selects a spindle speed between 20 and 2500 rpm and feeds the cutter or drill, using the rack and pinion feed when drilling. Tilting the column lets angled holes and faces be machined, while the start/stop switch with emergency stop and the guard with micro switch provide the safety controls during practice.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of milling machines required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the milling and drilling capacities?
The machine has a drilling capacity of 13 mm, a face milling capacity of 30 mm and an end milling capacity of 16 mm, with an MT3 spindle taper.

What speed range does the spindle cover?
A 550 W DC motor with variable speed drive turns the spindle from 20 to 2500 rpm, and the feed speed can be adjusted to suit different work-pieces.

Can the head be tilted for angled work?
Yes. The column tilts so that the work-piece can be drilled and milled at up to ±90° from vertical.

What travel does the bed give?
The bed travels 300 mm on the X axis, 140 mm on the Y axis and 220 mm on the Z axis, and the spindle stroke is 200 mm.

What is supplied with the machine?
It is supplied with a 13 mm chuck accessory kit for adjusting and setting, and the chuck arbor bolt tightens the drilling chuck through the spindle.

Which safety features are fitted?
A safety guard with a micro switch is fitted over the cutting area, and the start/stop switch incorporates an emergency stop button.
