Computerized Temperature Control Trainer
Product Code : EL-MAILE-10804
Computerized Temperature Control Trainer (code EL-MAILE-10804) is a water-circuit trainer on which students study temperature control as an introduction to control engineering, using components of the kind found in industry. A 3-stage 70 W pump circulates water past a 2 kW screw-in heater and a fan-cooled heat exchanger of approx. 2.8 m², three type J thermocouples (0–200 °C) measure the temperature, and a thyristor power controller with 25 A maximum load current acts on the heater.

What Is the Computerized Temperature Control Trainer Used For?
Temperature loops are slow, and the time taken for heated water to travel from the heater to the measuring point adds a dead time that makes them harder to control. On this trainer the delay is changed by using different lengths of process delay, and the water flow is set with a hand-operated valve. The digital controller works either continuously or as a switching device, driving the heater through the thyristor power controller and/or switching the heat-exchanger fan. Students compare P, I and D settings and follow the controlled and manipulating variables on the 2-channel line recorder, at the lab jacks or with the optional software.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of trainers required.
- Software — whether the optional process control software is wanted.
- Power supply — the 50 Hz or 60 Hz, 230 V single-phase version.
Frequently Asked Questions
What heats and cools the water in the circuit?
A 2 kW screw-in heater adds heat, and a heat exchanger of approx. 2.8 m² surface area with a 250 W fan rated at 780 m³/h and 430 Pa removes it.
How is the water temperature measured?
Three integrated type J thermocouples, each with a 0–200 °C range, provide the temperature measurement at points in the water circuit.
Can the controller work as an on-off controller?
Yes. The digital industrial controller can be configured as a continuous or a switching device, and it can act on the heater through the thyristor power controller, on the fan, or on both.
How are dead times demonstrated?
Different lengths of process delay can be used in the water circuit, which changes how long a change at the heater takes to show at the measuring point.
What are the pump and actuator ratings?
The 3-stage circulating pump uses 70 W and delivers 3.6 m³/h at 4 m head. The thyristor power controller acting as the actuator has a maximum load current of 25 A.
