What Are the Laboratory Thermometers Used For?
A liquid-in-glass thermometer reads temperature from the height of a liquid column, which expands up a fine bore as it warms, against a scale on the stem. A partial immersion thermometer is made to read correctly when it is dipped only to its marked immersion depth, with the rest of the stem in the air, so the user immerses the bulb to that mark in the liquid, bath or sample and reads the scale once the column has stopped moving. The blue organic fill shows clearly against the scale, which helps when readings are taken quickly at the bench.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does partial immersion mean?
A partial immersion thermometer is designed to be immersed only up to a set depth, usually marked on the stem, with the rest left out of the liquid. Immersing it more or less than that shifts the reading slightly.
What liquid is inside the thermometer?
The thermometer is filled with a blue organic liquid, which rises in the glass bore as the temperature increases and is read against the scale.
Where are these thermometers used?
Uses include chemical and petrochemical laboratories, universities, scientific institutions, food and beverage processing, the pharmaceutical and medical industries, manufacturers, dairies, breweries and distilleries.
What type of construction does it have?
It is a glass instrument of the general purpose liquid-in-glass type, with the liquid column held inside the glass stem and read against its scale.
