What Is the Magnetic Stirrer Used For?

A magnetic stirrer turns a magnet under the vessel, which spins the coated paddle, or stirring bar, lying in the liquid, so the contents are mixed without a shaft entering the vessel. It is used to dissolve solids, mix reagents and keep suspensions uniform, and with heating it can warm a solution while stirring it. The user stands the beaker or flask on the stainless steel top, drops in a paddle sized for the volume, then sets the speed and the temperature. The unit is built to limit fumes from the liquid getting into its housing.
