What Is the Dial Gauge Used For?
Many soil, concrete and materials tests need small movements measured: the settlement of a sample under load, the swelling of a soil, the penetration of a plunger or the change in length of a specimen. The gauge is clamped to the apparatus so that its plunger rests on the moving part, the dial is set to zero, and as the part moves the pointer turns over the 0-100 graduations, each division representing 0.01 mm. Movements up to the 10 mm range are read directly from the gauge.
