What Is the pH Paper Used For?
pH expresses how acidic or alkaline a solution is, with low values acidic and high values alkaline. The user tears a strip from the book, dips it in the sample or touches it to a moist surface, and within about 15 seconds compares the colour it has turned with the chart in the same book, reading off the nearest pH value between 2 and 10.5. The paper suits quick checks on water, household liquids such as soap, vinegar, lemon juice and milk, moist soil, and body fluids including saliva, urine and sweat.
