What Is the Universal Vibration Apparatus Used For?
Vibration theory covers how a system oscillates freely, how damping removes energy, how a periodic force drives it to large amplitudes at resonance, and how an added tuned absorber can cancel that vibration. On the trainer, students build pendulums, beam oscillators and spring-mass systems on the frame, record free and damped vibrations, and drive the beam with the imbalance exciter to find resonance, with the results drawn on the drum or polar chart recorder. Tuning the bending oscillator absorber to the excitation frequency then shows the main system's vibration falling away, and the optional data acquisition unit lets the readings be analysed on a PC.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of trainers required.
- Data acquisition — whether the optional PC data acquisition unit is to be included.
- Power supply — 230 V 50 Hz, 230 V 60 Hz or 120 V 60 Hz single phase.
Frequently Asked Questions
What topics can the trainer cover?
Experiments range from simple pendulum swinging through free and forced vibrations with resonance to vibration absorption, using pendulums, bar-type oscillators and spring-mass systems.
Which beams and springs are included?
An elastic beam of 700 × 25 × 4 mm (0.6 kg), a rigid beam of 700 × 25 × 12 mm (1.6 kg) and tension-pressure springs of 0.75 N/mm, 1.5 N/mm and 3.0 N/mm.
How are forced vibrations produced?
An electric motor imbalance exciter of 100 cmg drives the system at 0-50 Hz, with the excitation frequency set and displayed on a control unit.
How is vibration absorption demonstrated?
A tunable bending oscillator acts as the absorber. It uses a 20 × 1.5 mm leaf spring, has a total mass of approximately 1.1 kg and can be tuned from 5 to 50 Hz.
What recording options are there?
Vibrations are recorded on a mechanical drum recorder (20 mm/s, 100 mm width) and a polar chart recorder of 100 mm diameter, and an optional data acquisition unit shows and analyses them on a PC.
Where are the accessories stored?
The accessories are housed in a mobile laboratory table with drawers. The complete trainer measures approximately 1200 × 600 × 1400 mm and weighs 120 kg.
