Plunger Pump Demonstration Unit
Product Code : EL-FMLE-10677
Plunger Pump Demonstration Unit (code EL-FMLE-10677) is a motor-driven plunger pump rig for studying how a reciprocating pump behaves under different loading conditions and with or without pulsation damping. Water circulates from a clear acrylic reservoir through the transparent pump head, a pulsation damper and a sprung loading valve or needle valve, and the 250 W pump runs at up to 60 strokes/min with a 15 mm stroke × 32 mm diameter swept volume, giving 0.725 l/m typical flow at up to 4 bars.

What Is the Plunger Pump Demonstration Unit Used For?
A plunger pump delivers a fixed volume on every stroke, but its output arrives in pulses as the plunger moves back and forth, so the pressure in the cylinder rises and falls through each cycle. Students set the stroke rate, load the pump with either the sprung valve or the needle valve, and record cylinder pressure against plunger position, outlet pressure and cumulative flow in the measuring tank. Running again with the pulsation damper switched in shows how it smooths the delivery, and comparing the measured flow with the swept volume multiplied by the stroke rate shows how much of the theoretical delivery is achieved.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of plunger pump units required.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can be studied with this unit?
It is used to investigate a reciprocating plunger pump: the effect of pulsation damping, sprung-valve against needle-valve loading, and the instantaneous cylinder pressure, displacement, outlet pressure and cumulative flow.
How is the pump loaded?
The pump outlet is connected to both a sprung loading valve and a needle valve, so the two loading characteristics can be compared, and a pressure relief valve protects the operator and equipment.
What does the pulsation damper do?
It evens out the pulsing delivery of the pump. An additional valve isolates or includes the damper, so runs with and without damping can be compared.
What are the pump specifications?
Pumping speed is variable up to 60 strokes/min, the motor is rated 250 W, maximum flow is 0.725 l/m typical and maximum head is 4 bars; the unit takes a 230 V, 1 phase power supply.
What is the swept volume?
The swept volume is set by a 15 mm stroke and a 32 mm diameter, and electronic sensors log the plunger position through each stroke.
Which parts are transparent?
The pump head, measuring tank, pulsation damper and water reservoir are made of clear acrylic, so the pumping action and the flow can be seen.
