Computerized Flow Control Trainer
Product Code : EL-MAILE-10801
Computerized Flow Control Trainer (code EL-MAILE-10801) is a process control trainer for an experimental introduction to control engineering, using the regulation of water flow as its example. A 250 W centrifugal pump draws water from a 30 L storage tank through the piping, an electromagnetic sensor (0–6000 L/h) and a rotameter (0–1960 L/h) measure the flow, and a digital industrial controller adjusts an electric-motor control valve; the unit measures 1000 × 700 × 1750 mm and weighs approx. 110 kg.

What Is the Computerized Flow Control Trainer Used For?
In a closed control loop the controller compares the measured value with the set point and moves the actuator to remove the difference, and the P, I and D terms decide how quickly and steadily the process settles. On this trainer students set a flow, choose controller parameters in any P, I, D combination and open the ball valve in the outlet line to disturb the loop. The electromagnetic sensor reports the flow to the digital industrial controller, which repositions the electric-motor control valve, while the rotameter gives a direct cross-check. X and Y are traced on the 2-channel line recorder or taken from the switch-cabinet lab jacks to an oscilloscope or flatbed plotter.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of trainers required.
- Power supply — the 230 V, 50 Hz or the 230 V, 60 Hz single-phase version.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the flow rate measured on this trainer?
Two instruments measure it: an electromagnetic flow rate sensor covering 0–6000 L/h, which outputs a standardised current signal for the controller, and a rotameter that shows 0–1960 L/h directly.
Which controller modes can students set?
The digital industrial controller has freely selectable parameters, so P, I and D action can be used alone or in any combination, and their effect on the flow loop compared.
How are disturbances introduced into the loop?
A ball valve in the outlet line is used to create defined disturbance variables, and the controller's response to each change can then be followed on the recorder.
What are the details of the control valve?
The actuator is a control valve with an electric motor, a Kvs of 5.7 m³/h, a 5 mm stroke, an equal-percentage characteristic curve and a 0–1000 Ω valve-opening position sensor.
Can the results be recorded on external equipment?
Yes. Besides the integrated 2-channel line recorder, the controlled and manipulating variables are available as 4–20 mA analogue signals at lab jacks on the switch cabinet, for an oscilloscope or flatbed plotter.
What are the pump ratings, size and weight?
The centrifugal pump draws 250 W and delivers 150 L/min at 7 m head and 2800 min-1. The complete trainer measures 1000 × 700 × 1750 mm and weighs approx. 110 kg.
