Speed Measurement Trainer
Product Code : EL-MAILE-10810
Speed Measurement Trainer (code EL-MAILE-10810) is a set for measuring the rotational speed of a shaft with three different sensors, so that students can compare them on the same drive. A fractional HP 12 V DC motor, speed-controlled by a potentiometer and running at approx. 1500 RPM, turns a 60-slot copper wheel and a 60-tooth MS gear wheel, read by a photoelectric sensor, an electromagnetic proximity pickup and a DC tachometer generator with a digital speed indicator.

What Is the Speed Measurement Trainer Used For?
Each sensor works on a different principle: the photoelectric sensor responds to light reflected or interrupted by the slots, the magnetic pickup produces a pulse as each steel tooth passes, and the tachometer generator gives a DC voltage that rises with speed. With 60 slots or teeth on the wheels, the number of pulses per second equals the shaft speed in revolutions per minute. Students set several speeds with the potentiometer, read each sensor on the digital indicator and compare the results, noting how the pulse-type and voltage-type sensors behave at low and high speed.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of trainers required.
- Power supply — 230 V single phase, 50 Hz or 60 Hz version.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which speed sensors are fitted?
Three: a photoelectric (photo reflective) sensor, an electromagnetic proximity sensor working as a magnetic pickup, and a DC tachometer generator, all mounted to measure the same rotating shaft.
Why do the wheels have 60 teeth or slots?
With 60 pulses for every revolution, the number of pulses counted in one second is equal to the shaft speed in revolutions per minute, which simplifies the conversion.
How fast does the motor run?
The fractional HP motor runs on a 12 V DC input at approx. 1500 RPM, and a potentiometer controls its speed so that readings can be taken at different speeds.
Do the sensors touch the rotating wheel?
No. The magnetic pickup and photo reflective sensors are non-contact types, reading the 60-slot copper wheel and the 60-tooth MS gear wheel without touching them.
What are the trainer's dimensions and weight?
The trainer is 400 × 300 × 300 mm in size and weighs approx. 15 kg; it operates from 230 V, single phase, 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
