What Is the Radial Drill Machine Used For?

On a radial drilling machine the drilling head runs along an arm that swings around a vertical column, so the drill can be brought over any point of a large or heavy workpiece without moving the work itself. The operator clamps the work beneath the arm, swings the arm and traverses the head until the spindle is over the marked hole position, then feeds the drill down with the alloy steel spindle ram. This makes the machine suited to drilling several holes in castings, plates and fabrications that would be awkward to reposition under a fixed spindle.
