Wood Radial Arm Saw
Product Code : EL-WTMAA-10596
Wood Radial Arm Saw (code EL-WTMAA-10596) is a saw for cutting wood, of cast construction, driven by a totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motor with an integrated electro-mechanical brake system. Cooling ducts carry air through the motor laminations while the inside of the motor stays sealed from dust and contamination, and the brake keeps working even when the power drops out.

What Is the Wood Radial Arm Saw Used For?
On a radial arm saw the blade and motor travel along an overhead arm, and the operator pulls the turning blade across timber held on the table to make crosscuts, with the arm swung round for mitres when needed. Because the blade comes towards the operator, a quick stop matters: the electro-mechanical brake stops the blade after switch-off and keeps working if the supply fails. The TEFC motor, cooled through ducts in its laminations and sealed against sawdust, suits the dusty conditions of a wood workshop.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of radial arm saws required.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of motor drives the saw?
It uses a totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motor, with cooling ducts that move air through the laminations while the inside of the motor is sealed from dust.
Does the brake work if the power fails?
Yes. The integrated electro-mechanical brake system continues to operate even when the power drops out.
Why is a TEFC motor used on a wood saw?
Sawing produces fine dust; a totally enclosed motor keeps that dust and other contamination out of its windings, while the fan and ducts still carry cooling air through it.
What cuts does a radial arm saw make?
It is mainly used for crosscutting timber by pulling the blade across the work along the arm, and the arm can be swung round to cut mitres.
