Automatic Compactor for Bituminous Mixes
Product Code : EL-BTLE-10426
Automatic Compactor for Bituminous Mixes (code EL-BTLE-10426) is a motor-driven compaction machine that takes the place of hand compaction for bituminous mix specimens. Its mechanism lifts a 4.5 kg weight and drops it through 457 mm onto a removable rammer foot, with the specimen held in a holder on a pedestal fixed to the base, and a preset blow counter stops the machine once the set number of blows is reached. It runs on 230 V, 50 Hz single phase.

What Is the Automatic Compactor for Bituminous Mixes Used For?
Specimens of bituminous mix for stability testing are compacted with a set number of hammer blows on each face, and doing this by hand is tiring and varies from one operator to the next. With this machine the hot mix is placed in its mould in the holder on the pedestal, the preheated rammer foot is fitted, the number of blows is entered on the counter and the machine is started. It lifts and drops the 4.5 kg weight through 457 mm until the count is reached and then stops, so every specimen receives the same compactive effort. The standard listed for it is BS 598-107.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of compactors required.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Automatic Compactor for Bituminous Mixes do?
It compacts bituminous mix specimens mechanically, lifting and dropping a weight onto a rammer foot, so the laborious process of compacting by hand is no longer needed.
What weight and drop height does it use?
For each blow the driven mechanism raises a 4.5 kg weight and lets it fall through a height of 457 mm onto the rammer foot.
Why is the rammer foot removable?
Taking the rammer foot off allows it to be preheated, so that it does not chill the hot bituminous mix at the start of compaction.
How is the number of blows controlled?
An automatic preset blow counter lets the operator set the number of blows before each test, and it stops the machine by itself when that number has been delivered.
Where is the specimen held during compaction?
The specimen is held in a specimen holder on the compaction pedestal, and the pedestal is fixed to the base of the machine.
What supply and standard apply?
The machine is wired for 230 V, 50 Hz single phase A.C., and the standard listed for it is BS 598-107.
