Kinematic Viscometer Bath

Kinematic Viscometer Bath

Product Code : EL-BTLE-10431

Kinematic Viscometer Bath (code EL-BTLE-10431) is a desktop, all-in-one glass bath that holds viscometer tubes at a uniform temperature while the kinematic viscosity of bituminous materials is measured. It has intelligent signal sampling for data measuring and parameter reading, a digital display, a glass bath chosen for heat preservation and an electric stirrer that keeps the bath temperature even.

What Is the Kinematic Viscometer Bath Used For?

Kinematic viscosity describes how readily a liquid flows under its own weight. A calibrated glass capillary viscometer tube is charged with the binder and held upright in the bath until it reaches the test temperature; the time taken for the liquid to flow between two timing marks is then measured, and multiplying it by the calibration constant of the tube gives the kinematic viscosity. Because viscosity changes sharply with temperature, the electric stirrer keeps the bath liquid uniform around the tubes, and the clear glass lets the operator watch the meniscus pass the marks. The standards listed are ASTM 2170, AASHTO T201 and EN 12595.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Kinematic Viscometer Bath used for?
It holds glass viscometer tubes at a uniform temperature so that the kinematic viscosity of bituminous binders can be measured by timing their flow through the tubes.

How is the bath temperature kept even?
An electric stirrer circulates the bath liquid so that the temperature is uniform around the tubes, while the glass bath itself helps preserve heat.

How are readings taken and shown?
Intelligent signal sampling handles data measuring and parameter reading, and the values are presented on a digital display built into the desktop unit.

Can the bath be moved between benches?
It is an all-in-one desktop design, with the bath, stirrer and display combined in a single unit, which keeps it portable within the laboratory.

Which standards are listed for the bath?
The standards listed are ASTM 2170, AASHTO T201 and EN 12595, each of which describes kinematic viscosity measurement of bitumen or asphalt binders.
