Heating Mantle
Product Code : EL-LEAA-10524
Heating Mantle (code EL-LEAA-10524) is an electric heater shaped to fit round bottom flasks, used to heat their contents through close contact with the glass. Its heating element is woven into fiberglass yarn and set in a powder coated spun aluminium housing with ceramic fibre insulation, it reaches up to 450 °C under a built-in Simmerstat on-off energy regulator, and it runs on 220-240 V single phase AC. Each mantle takes one flask size, from 100 ml to 20 litres.

What Is the Heating Mantle Used For?
Round bottom flasks cannot stand on a flat hot plate, and a flame heats only a small area of the glass, so a heating mantle is used instead to wrap the lower part of the flask in a close-fitting, electrically heated surface. The flask is seated in a mantle of matching size, from 100 ml up to 20 litres, and the Simmerstat regulator is turned up until the contents reach the heat required, with up to 450 °C available at the mantle. Typical work includes distillation, refluxing and solvent extraction, where steady heating of the whole flask is needed.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of mantles required.
- Flask size — the capacity of the round bottom flask each mantle must fit, from 100 ml to 20 litres.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one mantle take different flask sizes?
A standard mantle is made for one flask size only, so a separate mantle is chosen for each round bottom flask capacity, from 100 ml up to 20 litres.
What is the maximum temperature?
The mantle reaches up to 450 °C. Heat is set with the built-in Simmerstat on-off energy regulator rather than a separate controller.
How is the heating element built?
The element is woven into fiberglass yarn, which forms the heating surface, and is fitted into a powder coated spun aluminium housing insulated with ceramic fibre.
Why is a close fit around the flask important?
When the heating surface is in close contact with the glass, heat passes straight into the flask instead of into the air around it, which gives good thermal efficiency.
What mains supply is required?
Each mantle is wired for 220-240 V single phase AC mains power, and the built-in Simmerstat regulator controls the power delivered to the element.
How should mantles be ordered?
List the flask capacities and the number of mantles for each, then send them with your delivery location through the contact page or by the Add To Cart enquiry button.
