What Is the Welding Electrode Drying Oven Used For?
Coated welding electrodes pick up moisture from the air during storage, and moisture in the flux coating can lead to porosity and hydrogen cracking in the weld, so electrodes are commonly dried, or baked, before they are used. The operator spreads the electrodes over the 5 trays in the square stainless steel chamber, sets the drying temperature on the digital thermostat and leaves them to heat, with the SS tubular element able to take the chamber up to 400 °C. Electrodes are then taken out as they are needed for welding.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many trays does the oven hold?
Five trays are fitted inside the chamber, so electrodes can be spread over several levels while they dry.
What is the maximum drying temperature?
The oven can operate up to 400 °C, with heat supplied by an SS tubular heating element and the temperature set on a digital thermostat.
What is the oven made of and how big is the chamber?
The body is made of stainless steel and the oven is square in shape, with an inner chamber of approx. 480 mm on all sides.
Why are welding electrodes dried before use?
Moisture absorbed by the flux coating of an electrode can cause porosity and hydrogen cracking in the weld, so electrodes are dried before welding to drive that moisture off.
