Water Still (code EL-LEAA-11017) is a wall-mounted electric still used to produce pyrogen free distilled water for the laboratory. Its body, condenser tube and jacket are 304 grade stainless steel, a kettle type element heats the water, and the condenser tube can be dismantled by removing the wing nut that holds it and the jacket to the wall bracket; it takes a 220/230 V ±10%, 50 Hz single phase supply.

What Is the Water Still Used For?

Distillation purifies water by boiling it and condensing the steam, leaving dissolved salts and most other impurities behind in the boiler, so the distillate is suitable for preparing reagents, rinsing glassware and other work where tap water would affect results. In use, cooling water flows through the jacket around the condenser tube while the kettle element boils the water in the still; the steam condenses in the tube and the distilled water runs out to a collecting vessel. The water level is checked at regular intervals, and the condenser can be taken off its wall bracket for cleaning.

What is the still made of?
