What Are the Laboratory Scoops Used For?

A scoop is the usual way of taking soil, sand, aggregate, cement or powders from a bag or bin and placing them in a mould, tray or balance pan in controlled amounts. The operator picks a capacity to match the job, with the smaller sizes for weighing out small portions and the larger ones, up to 5000 CC, for moving bulk material. A mirror polished surface is smooth, so material slides off it and the scoop can be wiped clean between samples, which keeps one material from contaminating the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What capacities do the scoops come in?
Five capacities are offered: 325 CC, 500 CC, 1000 CC, 2000 CC and 5000 CC, from small weighing scoops up to a size for moving bulk material.

Are the scoops stainless steel or aluminium?
Either stainless steel or aluminium can be chosen, and scoops in both metals are finished by mirror polishing.

Why does a scoop have a mirror polished finish?
A smooth, polished surface lets powders and fine particles slide off rather than cling, so less material is left in the scoop and it can be wiped clean between samples.

Which materials can be handled with them?
They are used for handling laboratory materials such as soil, sand, aggregate, cement and powders when filling moulds, trays, containers or balance pans.
