What Are the Maximum & Minimum Thermometers Used For?
A maximum and minimum thermometer records the extremes of temperature over a period, such as overnight or across a working day, without anyone having to watch it. As the temperature rises and falls, the liquid in the U tube pushes a small marker along each arm and leaves it at the furthest point reached; the maximum and the minimum are then read from the base of the two markers, while the liquid column shows the present temperature. After reading, the markers are reset to the liquid ends to begin a new period. It is used in stores, curing rooms, greenhouses and weather stations.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of maximum and minimum thermometers required.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are the maximum and minimum readings taken?
Each arm of the U tube holds a small marker that is pushed along as the temperature changes. The maximum and minimum are read from the base of these markers.
Which temperature scales are marked?
Both are marked: the Fahrenheit scale is on the inside of the U and the Celsius scale on the outside, so either unit can be read.
What range is offered?
The range available is -30 °C to +50 °C, which spans frost conditions as well as hot summer days in most climates.
How is the thermometer reset?
After the readings are noted, the markers are brought back to rest on the ends of the liquid columns, so that the next maximum and minimum start from the present temperature.
