Orbital Shaking Incubators

Orbital Shaking Incubators

Product Code : EL-LEAA-11020

Orbital Shaking Incubators (code EL-LEAA-11020) are temperature-controlled cabinets in which flasks held in clamps are shaken on an orbital platform while being incubated. They give variable speed up to 20–250 RPM and a temperature range of ambient to 60 °C ±0.5 °C with 0.1 °C setting, are refrigerated with R 134, and have a 304 grade stainless steel inner chamber, interchangeable flask clamps of assorted sizes and an air circulator.

What Are the Orbital Shaking Incubators Used For?

Shaking incubators combine an incubator with an orbital shaker, so that liquid cultures are kept at a steady temperature while being swirled; the motion keeps cells suspended and mixes air into the medium, which many microbial and cell cultures need in order to grow. Flasks are fixed in clamps of the right size, the speed and temperature are set, and the air circulator keeps the chamber temperature even while the platform runs. The glass door lets the cultures be checked during the run, and the timer and illumination options allow light periods to be set where the work calls for them.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of incubators required.
  • Body — all stainless steel 304 grade, or powder coated CRC outer body on angle iron frame with castor wheels.
  • Flask clamps — the flask sizes the interchangeable clamps must hold.
  • Options — whether the digital RPM meter is wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What shaking speeds do they cover?
The shaking speed is variable, given as up to 20–250 RPM, and a digital RPM meter is available as an option to show the running speed.

What temperature can be held in the chamber?
The range is ambient to 60 °C at ±0.5 °C, and the digital setting and digital resolution are both 0.1 °C.

Are the incubators refrigerated?
Yes. They are refrigerated units using R 134 refrigerant, with an air circulator in the chamber for temperature uniformity.

Can different flask sizes be shaken?
Interchangeable clamps of assorted sizes are provided for different flasks, so the platform can be set up for the flasks being used.

Why are cultures shaken during incubation?
Shaking keeps cells suspended and mixes air into the liquid medium, which helps aerobic cultures grow evenly while the temperature is held steady.

What are the chambers made of?
The inner chamber is 304 grade stainless steel; the outer body is either 304 grade stainless steel with a Plexi glass inner door, or powder coated CRC mild steel on an angle iron frame with castor wheels and a toughened glass front door.
