Vortex Shaker

Product Code : EL-LEAA-11006

Vortex Shaker (code EL-LEAA-11006) is a bench mixer that agitates the contents of test tubes and small flasks pressed onto its neoprene cup. A variable speed vibration motor gives a short, rapid stroke, shaking starts as soon as the vessel is pressed against the cup, vacuum rubber at the base stops the unit walking, and the casing is painted or powder coated MS/CRC sheet.

What Is the Vortex Shaker Used For?

Vortex mixing is used for quick, thorough mixing of small volumes, such as resuspending a pellet, blending a sample with a reagent or dissolving a small amount of powder in a tube. The user holds the tube near its top and presses its base onto the cup, and the rapid motion of the cup sets up a swirling vortex in the liquid that mixes it; easing off the pressure stops the shaking. The speed is set to suit the volume and how vigorous the mixing needs to be, and the vacuum rubber base keeps the unit in place while it vibrates.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of shakers required.
  • Controls — whether the mains switch, mains indicator and speed regulator option is wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is shaking started?
Shaking begins when a tube or small flask is pressed against the neoprene cup, so the vessel is mixed only while it is held in place.

What vessels can be mixed?
It is meant for test tubes and small flasks, which are agitated vigorously by the neoprene cup driven by the vibration motor.

Does the shaker move about on the bench?
Vacuum rubber is fitted at the bottom of the casing to prevent the unit walking across the bench while it vibrates.

Can the speed be adjusted?
The vibration motor drive is variable speed, and a speed regulator, mains switch and mains indicator can be added as options.

What is a vortex mixer used for?
It mixes small liquid volumes rapidly, for example blending a sample with a reagent or resuspending settled material in a tube, by setting up a swirling vortex in the liquid.
