What Is the Friability Test Apparatus Used For?
Friability is the tendency of tablets to chip, crumble or break when they rub and fall against each other during coating, packing and transport. A weighed sample of tablets is placed in the drum, which turns so that the tablets are lifted and dropped at each revolution; after a set number of turns or a set time, shown by the counter and the 0 to 60 minute timer, the tablets are dedusted and weighed again. The loss in weight, as a percentage of the starting weight, is the friability, and a double drum unit lets two samples be tested together.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of testers required.
- Drums — single drum or double drum.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it available with two drums?
Yes. It comes in single drum and double drum forms, each with a revolution counter, so two samples can be tested at once on the double drum unit.
What is the drum made of?
The rotating drum is acrylic and sealed, so the tablets can be seen tumbling during the test, and it is driven by a round shape motor.
How is the test time set?
The control panel carries the mains switch and a mechanical timer from 0 to 60 minutes, and the revolution counter shows the number of turns made.
How is friability worked out?
The tablets are weighed before and after tumbling in the drum, and the weight lost is expressed as a percentage of the starting weight.
How is an order for the tester placed?
Either use the Add To Cart enquiry button shown on this page, or give the number of testers, the drum type and the delivery location on the contact page.
