What Is the Core Cutting Grinding Machine Used For?

Rock cores for strength and deformation tests must be cut to length with end faces flat, parallel to each other and square to the core axis, otherwise the load is not applied evenly. The core is clamped in the V-vice, and the operator moves it past the diamond impregnated cutter with the hand feed to cut it to length, then finishes the ends on the grinding wheel while cooling water flows over the work. Specimens up to 55 mm diameter and 140 mm long are held directly; a longer core is turned round and held against the vice to complete the cut.
