What Is the Wooden Tripod Used For?
A survey tripod gives the instrument a steady stand over a ground mark: the legs are spread and pressed into the ground, the head is brought roughly level over the point, and the leg lengths are then locked so that the set-up stays still while angles and distances are read. On this hardwood tripod the legs can be locked either with screw clamps or with quick release lever clamps, so one tripod serves surveyors used to either system. It carries a total station, and the shoulder strap takes it from one station to the next.
