Wankel Engine Model

Wankel Engine Model

Product Code : EL-AELE-10740

Wankel Engine Model (code EL-AELE-10740) is a demonstration model of the Wankel rotary engine, built true to the original and complete with a cutaway carburettor, in which the triangular rotor driven by the driving shaft turns inside the stator to show the phases of operation. A small bulb lights during the compression phase to simulate gas ignition, and the model is of light metal construction, mounted on a base, turned by a crank handle and approx. 350 × 400 × 300 mm in size.

What Is the Wankel Engine Model Used For?

In a Wankel engine a triangular rotor turns eccentrically inside a stator, and each face of the rotor works through intake, compression, ignition and exhaust as it travels round, so the engine produces rotary motion directly without reciprocating pistons. Cranking the model slowly, the instructor shows the spaces between rotor and stator growing and shrinking, follows the fresh charge from the cutaway carburettor into the chamber, and points to the bulb as it lights during the compression phase. The class can then relate each phase to the rotor position seen through the cross-sectioned parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the rotor move in the model?
The triangular rotor, which takes the place of a piston, is driven by the driving shaft and rotates inside the stator, so the different phases of operation can be seen clearly.

How is ignition shown?
A small bulb lights up during the compression phase to simulate the ignition of the gas, marking the point in the cycle where firing takes place.

Is the carburettor sectioned too?
Yes, the model is complete with a cutaway carburettor, and various other parts are cross-sectioned to show the internal operation.

What is it made of and how is it driven?
It is of light metal construction, mounted on a base and operated manually by a crank handle, with many parts chromium plated and galvanised.

What size and weight is it?
It is approximately 350 × 400 × 300 mm overall and weighs about 7 kg.
