Vicker Hardness Tester
Product Code : EL-MTLE-10604
Vicker Hardness Tester (code EL-MTLE-10604) is a hardness testing machine with a very wide testing range, from soft metals such as lead up to the hardest materials such as hard steel. Its small indentation allows precision finished parts and thin sheet metal to be tested, the loading and unloading cycle is motorized, it has a built-in projection screen, and on the Auto Turret Machine the indexing is automatic.

What Is the Vicker Hardness Tester Used For?
The Vickers test presses a square-based diamond pyramid into the polished surface of a specimen under a set load, and the hardness number is worked out from the load and the mean length of the two diagonals of the square indentation. Because the indentations are geometrically similar at any load, the same hardness number is obtained on the same material whatever load is used, which is why one scale covers everything from lead to hardened steel. The operator places the specimen, runs the motorized load cycle, then measures the indentation diagonals on the projection screen; small loads suit thin sheet and finished parts.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of hardness testers required.
- Version — whether the Auto Turret Machine with automatic indexing is required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which materials can the tester measure?
Its testing range runs from soft metals such as lead up to the hardest materials, such as hard steel, on a single hardness scale.
Why does the Vickers hardness number not depend on the load?
The pyramid indenter makes geometrically similar impressions at every load, so the same specimen gives the same hardness number regardless of the load applied.
Can thin sheet and finished parts be tested?
Yes. The indentation is tiny and the applied load very small, so thin sheet metal and precision finished parts can be tested.
How is the indentation read?
The indentation is viewed on the built-in projection screen, where the diagonals of the square impression are measured to give the hardness number.
What does the Auto Turret Machine do?
On the Auto Turret Machine, pressing cycle start operates the indexing mechanism and starts loading; when loading finishes, the indexing mechanism returns to the measuring station.
Is the load applied by hand?
No. The loading and unloading cycle is motorized, so the load is applied and removed by the machine once the test is started.
