Steam Turbine Power Plant Setup

Steam Turbine Power Plant Setup

Product Code : EL-TELE-10711

Steam Turbine Power Plant Setup (code EL-TELE-10711) is a laboratory training plant that runs a complete small steam power cycle, from an oil-fired once-through boiler and superheater through a turbine and generator to a condenser and back to the boiler. The steam generator delivers 200 kg/h at 11 bar with an 8 min heat-up time, and the single-stage axial turbine with Curtis wheel gives up to 1.5 kW at 3000 min-1. The plant is PLC-controlled and sends its measurements to a PC via USB.

What Is the Steam Turbine Power Plant Setup Used For?

A steam power plant turns the heat of burning fuel into electricity through a closed cycle: water is boiled and superheated, the steam expands through a turbine that drives a generator, and the exhaust steam is condensed and returned to the boiler. The training plant lets students carry out start-up, steady operation and shut-down of such a plant themselves, then load the turbine with the generator and record temperatures, pressures, flows, torque and speed at each stage. From these values they calculate boiler efficiency, turbine mechanical and thermal efficiency, condenser efficiency and the plant's specific fuel consumption. Feed water passes through the ion exchanger and dosing system, and a cooling tower can be added.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of plants required.
  • Power supply — the 400 V, 50 Hz three phase version or one of the 60 Hz versions.
  • Cooling tower — whether the plant is to be operated with the optional cooling tower.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which parts of a steam power plant are included?
An oil-fired once-through steam boiler, a superheater, a single-stage axial turbine with Curtis wheel loaded by a generator, a water-cooled condenser and a feed water treatment system in a closed steam-water circuit.

What steam output does the boiler give?
The steam generator produces 200 kg/h of steam at 11 bar, consumes 12 L/h of fuel and heats up in 8 min, which allows rapid steam generation.

How much power does the turbine produce?
The turbine gives a maximum of 1.5 kW at 3000 min-1, with its output found from speed and torque, and a hydraulic speed regulator controls its speed.

How is the feed water treated?
The feed water circuit has a complete water treatment system made up of a regenerable ion exchanger and chemical dosing.

How is the plant controlled and monitored?
A programmable logic controller (PLC) monitors and controls the plant, the control panel carries a process schematic, and measured values appear on digital displays or go to a PC via USB.

What information should an international enquiry include?
Give the number of plants, the country and the port or city it is to be shipped to, the delivery terms required such as FOB or CIF, packing needs and any tender reference.
