What Is the Petri Dish Rack, Acrylic Used For?
During incubation, petri dishes are usually stacked, and a rack keeps the stacks upright, separated and together, so that they can be carried to and from the incubator as one load without sliding over. The 90 mm dishes are loaded between the polycarbonate posts, and because the acrylic is clear, the user can look at the plates from the side or from above to check growth without taking the rack apart. The four holes in the separator wall serve as finger grips for carrying. As the rack is not autoclavable, it is kept out of the autoclave.
