Refrigerated Ductility Test System
Product Code : EL-BTLE-10434
Refrigerated Ductility Test System (code EL-BTLE-10434) is a ductility tester whose water bath has its own refrigeration unit and a microprocessor based digital temperature controller, used to measure the distance in cm that a standard bitumen briquette stretches before its thread breaks. Stretching takes place at 50 mm/min (± 2.5 mm per minute) with the water at 27 °C (± 0.5 °C), below-ambient working is possible down to 8 °C in tropical climates, and three briquette moulds with one base plate are included.

What Is the Refrigerated Ductility Test System Used For?
In tropical laboratories the water in a ductility bath can sit above the test temperature for much of the year, and the refrigeration unit lets this system hold 27 °C, or go below ambient as far as 8 °C, even in those conditions. Briquettes cast in the moulds are clamped between the fixed plate and the carrier under water, the operator selects the speed with the clutch and starts the motor, and the carrier draws the bitumen out into a thread. When the thread breaks, the pointer on the 0-100 cm scale gives the ductility directly. The standards listed are IS 1208, EN 13398, ASTM D113, D6084, AASHTO T51 and NFT66.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Refrigerated Ductility Test System have a refrigeration unit?
Thanks to its built-in refrigeration the bath can run below room temperature, as low as 8 °C, even in tropical conditions, while the heater and controller hold the 27 °C test temperature to ± 0.5 °C.
At what rate is the briquette stretched?
The test rate is 50 mm/min ± 2.5 mm per minute. The threaded shaft gives two carrier speeds, 5 cm/min and 1 cm/min, chosen with a clutch.
How is the elongation read?
The carrier has a pointer that travels along a 0-100 cm × 1 mm graduated scale on the bath, with its zero at the fixed plate end, so the stretch at break is read off directly.
What kind of temperature controller is fitted?
Temperature is governed by a dual display, microprocessor based, auto tuning PID digital indicator cum controller, and switches for the motor, stirrer, heater and indicator lamps sit on the bath.
What is the bath made of?
The inside of the water bath is stainless steel, with insulation and a water drain cock, and a heater and circulating pump keep the water temperature uniform.
What comes with the system, and which standards apply?
Three briquette moulds and one base plate are included for single phase operation, and the standards listed are IS 1208, EN 13398, ASTM D113, D6084, AASHTO T51 and NFT66.
