What Is the Solvent Recovery Unit Used For?

Extraction tests on bituminous mixes get through large volumes of solvent, and distilling the used liquid for re-use reduces both the quantity of fresh solvent bought and the amount of dirty solvent to be disposed of. The used solvent, carrying dissolved bitumen, is put into the left-hand chamber, cooling water is connected to the water cooling system, and the heater is switched on. Solvent vapour passes through the cooling system and collects as clean liquid in the second chamber while the bitumen residue stays behind, and the temperature switch cuts the heating once distillation is complete. Only non-flammable solvents are recovered in it.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of recovery units required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which solvents can the Solvent Recovery Unit recover?
It is designed for non-flammable solvents only, recovering the solvent liquid left over from extraction tests so that it can be used again in a new test.

How does the recovery process work?
An electric heater in the left-hand stainless steel chamber distils the dirty solvent; the vapour passes through a water cooling system and drops as clean solvent into the second chamber.

Does it switch off by itself?
Yes. As soon as recovery is finished, a temperature switch cuts power to the heating elements without any action by the operator.

What are its power and temperature ratings?
The heater is rated at 1200 W and the unit works up to a maximum temperature of 150 °C, within overall dimensions of 400 × 320 × 650 mm.

What accessories are supplied?
The supply includes one lid, tube clamps, a 10 m length of plastic tube and a sieve insert whose opening is 0.6 mm; the unit itself weighs about 17 kg.
