What Are the Air Content Meters Used For?
Air entrained in mortar affects its workability, strength and frost resistance, so the air content of the fresh mix is checked against the mix requirement. The operator fills the test pot with mortar, strikes it level and clamps the upper part in place with the two spring clamps so that the joint is air-tight. Air is pumped into the head with the built-in hand pump and then let into the pot, and because the air held in the mortar compresses, the fall in pressure, read on the gauge in volumetric %, gives the air content directly.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of meters required.
- Capacity — the 1 litre model or the 0.75 litre model.
- Operation — the hand pump version or the electric operated version, supplied on request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which materials can the Air Content Meters test?
They are designed to determine the air content of cement mortar, cement paste and lime mortar, with the result read directly on the pressure gauge in volumetric %.
What is the difference between the two models?
They are practically identical except for capacity. The standard listed for the 1 litre model is EN 459-2, and for the 0.75 litre model it is EN 413-2.
How is the pot sealed and pressurised?
Two quick-action spring clamps lock the upper part onto the test pot to make an air-tight seal, and a hand pump built into the meter compresses the air.
What range does the gauge cover?
The pressure gauge is recessed in the head of the meter and its scale reads from 0 to 50 volumetric %, with TEST and CORRECTION push buttons on the front plate.
Is an electric version available?
Yes. Both the 1 litre and the 0.75 litre models can be supplied, on request, in an electric operated version.
Which standards are listed for the meters?
For the meters, the standards listed are EN 1015-7, EN 459-2 and EN 413-2; each meter is 320 mm high, 20 mm dia., and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.
