What Is the Kjeldahl Digestion Unit Used For?

In the Kjeldahl method, organic nitrogen in a sample such as sludge, soil, feed or food is converted to ammonium salts by boiling it with concentrated sulphuric acid, after which the ammonia is distilled off and titrated to calculate the nitrogen or protein content. This unit carries out the digestion stage for 6 samples at a time: the operator sets the digestion flasks in the unit and heats them until the digest clears, while the lead fume duct draws away the acid fumes. The glass parts and clamps are not part of the supply.
