COD Digestion Apparatus
Product Code : EL-ETLE-10977
COD Digestion Apparatus (code EL-ETLE-10977) is a heated block digester that pollution control laboratories use to run the COD method on influent and effluent waste water and on industrial process water. Its aluminium block has holes of 40 mm dia. × 80 mm depth for 15 COD tubes and heats them to up to 180 °C under a solid state digital temperature controller, with a selectable digestion timer of up to 120 minutes with alarm.

What Is the COD Digestion Apparatus Used For?
Chemical oxygen demand is the amount of oxygen needed to oxidise the organic and other oxidisable matter in a water sample chemically, usually with hot acid dichromate, and it gives a result within hours rather than the days a BOD test takes. Sample and reagents are sealed in COD tubes, which the operator places in the holes of the aluminium block; the controller brings the block up to temperature and the timer runs for the chosen digestion period, sounding an alarm at the end. Once cooled, each tube is analysed by the colorimetric or titrimetric method to give the COD of influent, effluent or process water.
What to Specify When Ordering

Frequently Asked Questions
How many COD tubes does the block hold?
The aluminium block holds 15 COD tubes, in holes measuring 40 mm dia. × 80 mm depth.
What temperature and digestion time can be set?
The block heats to up to 180 °C under a solid state digital controller, and the refluxing period is set on a selectable timer of up to 120 minutes, which gives an alarm.
How are digested samples analysed?
Once digestion ends, each sample goes on to a colorimetric or a titrimetric finish, whichever method the laboratory follows.
How is heat loss kept down?
The apparatus has double wall construction with insulation, and the heater and insulation are chosen so that all samples in the block see a uniform temperature.
Which waters can be tested?
It serves the COD method on influent and effluent waste water and on industrial process water, and is a common item in pollution control laboratories.
