What Is the Gas Charging Trainer Used For?

Before a refrigeration system is charged, air and moisture have to be pumped out, because they raise the condensing pressure and moisture can freeze or form acids in the circuit. Students first empty the system, connect the vacuum pump and pull the circuit down to vacuum, watching the 0 to 1000 mbar gauge. They then charge refrigerant from the filling cylinder until the correct amount is in the system, checking the intake and delivery manometers, whose R134a temperature scales show the matching saturation temperatures.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of gas charging units required.
  • Mains version — built for 50 Hz or for 60 Hz, at 230 V and one phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

What skills does the Gas Charging Trainer teach?
It teaches how to empty a refrigeration unit, evacuate it with a vacuum pump, and then charge it with the correct amount of refrigerant.

Which gauges are fitted?
There are manometers for intake, delivery and cylinder pressure, a vacuum gauge, and intake and delivery manometers with a temperature scale for refrigerant R134a.

How much refrigerant does the filling cylinder hold?
The filling cylinder holds 1000 g of R134a, and its pressure is read on a manometer covering -1 to 25 bar.

What pressure ranges are covered?
Intake pressure reads -1 to 10 bar, delivery pressure -1 to 30 bar, vacuum 0 to 1000 mbar and cylinder pressure -1 to 25 bar.

Why must a system be evacuated before charging?
Air and moisture left in the circuit raise the condensing pressure, and moisture can freeze at the expansion device or react to form acids, so both are removed under vacuum first.
