Bench Top Mechanical Heat Pump Trainer

Bench Top Mechanical Heat Pump Trainer

Product Code : EL-RAACLE-10785

Bench Top Mechanical Heat Pump Trainer (code EL-RAACLE-10785) is a training unit built as an air-to-water heat pump, used to study the design, operation and thermodynamic cycle of a heat pump. A compressor of 372 W capacity at 7,2/32 °C, a finned tube evaporator with fan, a thermostatic expansion valve and a coaxial coil condenser heat water in a hot water circuit with a 4,5 L tank and pump, and the heat is carried away through an external cooling water connection.

What Is the Bench Top Mechanical Heat Pump Trainer Used For?

A heat pump runs the same vapour compression cycle as a refrigerator but is judged by the heat it delivers, here taken from the room air and passed to water. Students run the unit with the cooling water valve set to a chosen flow, record pressures, temperatures, power and water flows, and mark the thermodynamic cycle in a log p-h plot. From an energy balance on the condenser and the compressor input they calculate the real coefficient of performance, compare it with the theoretical value, and see how it falls as the temperature difference between air and water grows and how the unit behaves under load.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of heat pump trainers to be supplied.
  • Supply version — 50 Hz or 60 Hz, both at 230 V single phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the air-to-water heat pump trainer work?
Refrigerant evaporates in the finned tube evaporator, taking heat from ambient air, is compressed, and condenses in the outer pipe of the coaxial coil condenser, passing heat to water in the inner pipe.

What is the compressor capacity?
The compressor has a capacity of 372 W at 7,2/32 °C. The coaxial condenser holds 0,55 L of refrigerant and 0,3 L of water.

What does the hot water circuit consist of?
It is made up of a tank of approx. 4,5 L, a pump with a maximum flow rate of 1,9 m³/h and head of 1,4 m, and the condenser acting as the heater.

Which performance figures can students determine?
They can find the compressor pressure ratio, the real and theoretical coefficients of performance, energy balances, and the effect of the air-to-water temperature difference on the real coefficient of performance.

What ranges do the instruments cover?
Pressure 2 × -1 to 15 bar, temperature 4 × 0 to 100 °C and 2 × -100 to 100 °C, power 0 to 6000 W, water 0 to 108 L/h and cooling water 10 to 160 L/h.

How big is the trainer?
The trainer is approx. 1600 mm long, 800 mm wide and 1600 mm high, and it weighs about 185 kg.
