Vapour Compression Refrigeration Trainer
Product Code : EL-RAACLE-10795
Vapour Compression Refrigeration Trainer (code EL-RAACLE-10795) is a training circuit assembled from a hermetic piston compressor, a condenser, a float valve acting as expansion valve and an evaporator, used to show the changes of state of a refrigerant in a compression refrigeration system. It runs on refrigerant SES36, whose low pressure level allows a glass evaporator and condenser of approx. 2800 mL each, and a water circuit with adjustable flows supplies condenser cooling and the evaporator load.

What Is the Vapour Compression Refrigeration Trainer Used For?
Refrigeration depends on the energy a refrigerant absorbs from its surroundings as it changes from liquid to vapour, and in most systems this happens out of sight inside metal pipes. Here students can watch the refrigerant boil in the glass evaporator and condense in the glass condenser, see the float valve meter the liquid and check the aggregate state at the sight glass. By setting the cold water, hot water and refrigerant flows and reading the eight temperatures, two pressures, flow rates and power, they draw up energy balances, represent the cycle in log p-h form and calculate the coefficient of performance.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — how many vapour compression trainers are to be supplied.
- Electrical version — 50 Hz or 60 Hz operation on 230 V, 1 phase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the evaporator and condenser made of glass?
The refrigerant SES36 works at a low pressure level, which permits a glass evaporator and condenser, so evaporation and condensation can be watched directly.
What expansion device is used?
A float valve serves as the expansion valve and its operation can be watched, while a sight glass before the evaporator shows the state of the refrigerant.
How is the evaporator load supplied?
A water circuit cools the condenser and provides the evaporator's cooling load; cold water, hot water and refrigerant flows can each be adjusted.
Which values are measured on this trainer?
Eight temperatures from -20 to 200 °C, two pressures from -1 to 1,5 bar, two water flows of 0 to 48 L/h, refrigerant flow of 0 to 700 L/h and power of 0 to 1200 W.
What compressor is fitted?
A hermetic piston compressor with a capacity of 18,3 cm³ drives the circuit, and the evaporator and condenser each hold approx. 2800 mL.
How big is the unit?
Length, width and height are about 1200, 800 and 1000 mm, and the trainer weighs approximately 110 kg.
