Computerized Cooling Tower Test Bench

Computerized Cooling Tower Test Bench

Product Code : EL-RAACLE-10790

Computerized Cooling Tower Test Bench (code EL-RAACLE-10790) is a test bench on which the main components and working of a forced-ventilation wet cooling tower are examined. Water warmed in a tank by a 500, 1000 or 1500 W heater is pumped to an atomiser and trickles down a wet deck of 110 m²/m³ specific surface in a transparent 150 × 150 mm column, against air from a 250 W fan, and its readings are logged on a PC by USB.

What Is the Computerized Cooling Tower Test Bench Used For?

Wet cooling towers reject heat from power, process and air conditioning plants by letting warm water give up heat to air, mostly through the evaporation of a small part of the water. On the bench students set the heater stage and the airflow with the throttle valve, then record water and air temperatures, humidity, flow rates and the volume of water evaporated while watching the film run down the wet deck. Plotting the air states on the h-x diagram and balancing the energy of water and air gives the cooling capacity and process parameters such as the cooling zone width and maximum cooling distance.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — how many cooling tower benches are required.
  • Power version — 230 V, 1 phase, made for either 50 Hz or 60 Hz mains.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the cooling tower bench work?
Heated water is sprayed over the wet deck and trickles down while a fan blows air upwards, so the water loses heat to the air through convection and evaporation.

Can the inside of the column be seen?
Yes. The cooling column is transparent, so the wet deck surface and the trickling water can be observed while a test is running.

How is the water heated and the airflow set?
A heater adjustable in three stages of 500, 1000 and 1500 W warms the water, with a thermostat that switches off at 50 °C; the fan airflow is adjusted with a throttle valve.

What is measured during a test?
Volumetric air flow rate, air and water temperatures, air humidity, water flow rate and the volume of water evaporated, shown on digital displays and logged on a PC over USB.

What are the fan and pump ratings?
The fan uses 250 W, with a maximum pressure difference of 430 Pa and a maximum flow of 13 m³/min; the pump has a maximum head of 70 m and a maximum flow of 100 L/h.

How much space does the bench take up?
Allow roughly 1200 by 600 mm of floor space; the bench is about 1600 mm tall and its weight is around 125 kg.
