Air Blower Test Setup

Air Blower Test Setup

Product Code : EL-TELE-10709

Air Blower Test Setup (code EL-TELE-10709) is a bench-top unit for studying air flow measurement and the operating behaviour of a radial fan, using an industrial-type centrifugal blower whose inlet and outlet ducts carry flow straighteners and a damper. The blower gives a maximum un-choked flow of over 12 m³/min and a fully choked head of over 80 mm water, measured with a venturi nozzle, orifice plate, inlet cone and travelling pitot on twin inclined water manometers.

What Is the Air Blower Test Setup Used For?

In a radial fan the air enters along the drive shaft, is turned through 90° by the rotating rotor and leaves radially, and the unit is used to learn how such a fan behaves and how airflow is measured. Students run the blower, close the damper in steps from fully open to fully choked, and at each setting read the flow from the venturi nozzle, orifice plate, inlet cone or pitot traverse on the inclined manometers, with the thermometer and barometer giving the air conditions. The results give the fan's head against flow and let the measuring devices be compared. The standards listed are BS 848 and 1042 and ISO 5167.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of blower test setups required.
  • Optional apparatus — any of the optional airflow measuring devices wanted with the set.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of fan does the setup use?
It uses an industrial-type centrifugal blower, a radial fan in which air is drawn in axially along the drive shaft, deflected by 90° by the rotor and discharged radially.

What flow and head does the blower give?
The maximum flow rate, un-choked, is over 12 m³/min, and the maximum head, fully choked, is over 80 mm of water.

Which devices are used to measure the airflow?
Airflow rate is measured with a venturi nozzle, an orifice plate, an inlet cone and a travelling pitot, read on inclined water manometers.

What range do the manometers cover?
Twin inclined water manometers read 0-450 mm with 1 mm graduations and have multiple slopes of 1:10, 1:5, 1:2 and 1:1 for differential pressures.

What other experiments can be carried out?
Listed topics include Bernoulli's experiment, airflow drag, boundary layer, flow visualisation, flow around a bend, airflow in pipes and free jet study, with further measuring devices offered as options.

Which standards are listed for the airflow measurement?
The standards listed are BS 848 and 1042 and ISO 5167, for the study of air flow measurement with the blower set.
