Multi Engine Test Bench
Product Code : EL-TELE-10701
Multi Engine Test Bench (code EL-TELE-10701) is a control and load unit for measuring the power output of internal combustion engines, paired with a choice of engine to suit the customer's requirements. An air-cooled asynchronous motor of 11 kW nominal output at 3000 min-1 starts the engine and then brakes it, with speed and torque set through a frequency converter and the braking energy fed back into the electrical system. Measured values are shown on digital displays and sent to a PC over USB.

What Is the Multi Engine Test Bench Used For?
The chosen engine is lifted onto the vibration-insulated base plate, coupled to the asynchronous motor and fed with diesel or petrol from the tanks in the frame. The motor cranks the engine and, once it runs, acts as the brake; the operator sets speed and torque on the frequency converter while the suspended brake and force sensor give the torque. With the engine in passive mode, the motor drives it to find its frictional power. Speed, torque, air and fuel consumption, cooling water flow and temperatures are sent to the PC, and from them students draw the torque and power curves, work out the fuel-air ratio (lambda), volumetric efficiency and specific fuel consumption, and for water-cooled engines draw up the energy balance.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of test benches required.
- Engine — the engine to be supplied with the control and load unit, to suit the tests planned.
- Power supply — the 400 V or the 230 V, 50 Hz, 3 phase version.
- Calorimeter — whether the optional calorimeter is wanted.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the bench load the engine?
An air-cooled asynchronous motor with an energy recovery unit acts as the brake, its speed and torque set by a frequency converter, and the braking power is fed back into the electrical system.
How is engine torque measured?
Torque is measured by a suspended brake unit and a force sensor, over a measuring range of -200 to 200 Nm, while speed is measured from 0 to 5000 min-1.
Can it test both diesel and petrol engines?
Yes. Two separate fuel gauge systems in the mobile frame allow a quick change between diesel and petrol operation, and the engine itself is chosen to suit customer requirements.
What is passive mode used for?
In passive mode the engine is driven by the asynchronous motor instead of running under its own power, and this is used to determine the frictional power of the engine.
Which values are displayed and logged?
Speed, torque, air consumption and temperatures are shown digitally, fuel consumption and cooling water flow in analogue form, and the measured values pass to a PC via USB with the included software.
What is needed to change engines?
Lifting gear is required to exchange the engines on the vibration-insulated base plate. The complete stand measures 2100 × 900 × 1800 mm and weighs approximately 380 kg.
