Turbo Jet Engine Test Bench
Product Code : EL-TELE-10706
Turbo Jet Engine Test Bench (code EL-TELE-10706) is an experimental stand for investigating how a small jet engine behaves in operation, including its start-up procedure. Its engine combines a single-stage radial compressor and an annular combustion chamber with a single-stage axial turbine and a propelling nozzle, giving a maximum thrust of 82 N at 117000 min-1. It starts fully automatically with an electric starter, and speed, temperatures and air and fuel mass flow rates are displayed digitally and sent to a PC via USB.

What Is the Turbo Jet Engine Test Bench Used For?
A turbojet works on an open gas turbine cycle: ambient air is compressed, fuel is burned in the compressed air, and the hot gas drives the turbine, which in turn drives the compressor, before expanding in the propelling nozzle to ambient pressure. Leaving the nozzle at almost the speed of sound, the gas jet produces the thrust. On the bench, the operator starts the engine automatically with the electric starter and runs it across its speed range while sensors record speed, temperatures, pressures, thrust force and air and fuel flow. From the logged data, students work out specific thrust, specific fuel consumption and lambda, and study the start-up behaviour.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of test benches required.
- Power supply — the 230 V 50 Hz, 230 V 60 Hz or 120 V 60 Hz single phase version.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the jet engine consist of?
Its single-stage radial compressor feeds an annular combustion chamber, followed by a single-stage axial turbine and a propelling nozzle; the stand adds a fuel system, a starter and ignition system and measuring equipment.
What thrust and speed does the engine reach?
Maximum thrust is 82 N at 117000 min-1, and the engine runs over a speed range of 35000 to 117000 min-1.
What fuel does it use and how much?
It runs on kerosene or petroleum with turbine oil added, from a 5 L tank, and consumes up to 22 L/h at full load.
How loud and hot is the engine?
The sound level is a maximum of 130 dB(A) at a distance of 1 m, and the exhaust gas temperature is 610 °C.
Why is there a mixing pipe at the outlet?
The exhaust gas stream is mixed with ambient air in the mixing pipe to reduce the outlet temperature of the gas leaving the stand.
Which results can students calculate?
From the recorded speed, temperatures and air and fuel mass flow rates, students determine the specific thrust, the specific fuel consumption and lambda, the fuel-air ratio.
