Stripping Value Apparatus

Stripping Value Apparatus

Product Code : EL-BTLE-10437

Stripping Value Apparatus (code EL-BTLE-10437) is a motor-driven rotating tray used for stripping value tests, carrying 4 bottles of about 400 cc each, set 90° apart with their mouths facing inward. A geared electric motor spins the tray in a vertical plane at roughly 100 R.P.M. for the period set on the time switch, drawing power from a 230 V A.C. single phase supply.

What Is the Stripping Value Apparatus Used For?

The stripping value test shows how well a bitumen film stays bonded to aggregate when water is present, since water displacing the binder from the stone is a common cause of early pavement distress. Bitumen-coated aggregate is placed with water in the bottles, the bottles are fixed to the tray and the time switch is set, and the tray then tumbles the contents end over end. When the run ends the aggregate is examined and the proportion of surface left uncoated is estimated, giving the stripping value.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many samples does the Stripping Value Apparatus take?
Four bottles of approximately 400 cc each are mounted on the circular tray, set at 90° to one another with their mouths pointing to the centre.

How fast does the tray rotate?
The geared motor drives the tray round in a vertical plane at about 100 R.P.M., for the length of time set on the time switch.

What does the stripping value tell the engineer?
It indicates how far water displaces bitumen from coated aggregate, which helps in judging whether a binder and aggregate combination will resist stripping in service.

What electrical supply is required?
It runs on a 230 V A.C. single phase supply, powering the geared motor that rotates the tray of bottles.
