Automatic Vicat Apparatus
Product Code : EL-CTLE-10348
Automatic Vicat Apparatus (code EL-CTLE-10348) is a computer-controlled instrument that times the initial and final set of cement paste and records both without an operator taking each reading. A needle or probe drops into the sample at regular intervals and fixed positions, penetration is measured by encoder with a 0.1 mm sensor resolution, and the unit has a 4.3 inch colour touch screen, LAN and USB ports and a 50 W rating, weighing about 10 kg.

What Is the Automatic Vicat Apparatus Used For?
Setting time shows how long cement paste stays workable before it stiffens, and a manual Vicat test needs someone to drop the needle and read it at every interval for hours. With this unit the operator fills the sample, sets the test profile with its start delay, penetration positions and depth limits, and starts the run. The needle or probe then drops at the programmed intervals and each penetration is measured; as the paste hardens the depth falls, and the set limits give the initial and final setting times. Results and the setting curve can be printed on the optional integrated printer, saved to the pen drive or sent to a PC.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of units required.
- Standard parts — EN or ASTM/AASHTO parts for the tests to be run.
- Accessories — any of the in-water testing kit, needle cleaning device, integrated printer and probes for consistency and gypsum testing.
- Networking — the number of units to be linked to one PC through a LAN hub, up to 32.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Automatic Vicat Apparatus find the setting times?
A needle or probe drops into the sample at set intervals and positions; as the cement hardens the penetration falls, and when it reaches the programmed depth limits the initial and final setting times are calculated and recorded.
How finely is penetration measured?
Penetration is measured by encoder with a sensor resolution of 0.1 mm, and the minimum penetration rate given for the unit is 10 seconds.
Can several units be run from one computer?
Yes. Through its LAN port each unit connects directly to a PC or to a LAN hub, so that up to 32 independent units can be networked and run from a single PC; 1 LAN cable is included.
How are test results stored and printed?
Data can be saved through the USB port onto the pen drive supplied, and an integrated graphic printer can be fitted to print the test result and the setting time plot.
What can be programmed in a test profile?
Profiles cover the test start delay, penetration point positions, end-test detection, manual or automatic penetration rate, free or driven dropping mode and holding intervals inside the sample, and they can be recalled for future tests.
Which standards are listed for it?
The standards listed for the Automatic Vicat Apparatus are EN 196-3, 13279-2 and 480-2, together with ASTM C191 and ASTM C187.
