Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus

Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus

Product Code : EL-CTLE-10905

Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus (code EL-CTLE-10905) is an instrument for finding how finely Portland cement, lime or a similar powder is ground, measured as specific surface, by drawing air through a compacted bed of it. It comprises a perforated disk, a stainless steel test cell, a calibrated U-tube manometer, a plunger and a rubber aspirator with bulb, all mounted on a wood panel with a base, and its accessories include filter paper, 250 ml of manometer liquid, a test stand and a plastic funnel.

What Is the Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus Used For?

Fineness controls how quickly cement reacts with water, so it is expressed as specific surface, the surface area of the particles in a unit mass. The plunger presses a weighed portion of the powder into the stainless steel cell, on filter paper over the perforated disk, to form a bed of known porosity. The aspirator bulb lifts the manometer liquid, and the time it takes to fall between the timing marks as air is drawn through the bed is recorded; a finer powder resists the air more and gives a longer time, from which the specific surface is calculated. The standards listed are IS 4031, 5516, 1727 and 4828, ASTM C-204 and BS 4359-2.

Frequently Asked Questions

On what principle does the Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus work?
The pore volume of a compacted bed of powder governs how fast air flows through it, so drawing air through a bed of specific porosity and timing the flow gives the fineness.

Which parts make up the apparatus?
It has a perforated disk, a stainless steel test cell, a calibrated U-tube manometer, a plunger and a rubber aspirator with bulb, all mounted on a wood panel fitted with a base.

Which accessories are listed?
The accessories listed are filter paper, a U manometer tube, a rubber aspirator, 250 ml of manometer liquid, a test stand and a plastic funnel.

Why does a finer cement give a longer flow time?
Finer particles pack with smaller pores and more surface, which resists the passage of air, so the manometer liquid falls more slowly and the timed interval is longer.

Which standards are listed for it?
The standards listed are IS 4031, 5516, 1727 and 4828, ASTM C-204 and BS 4359-2.

What does an export enquiry need to include?
Include the quantity, the country of destination and the port or city of delivery, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing requirements and any tender reference.
