What Is the High Precision Water Bath Used For?
Water baths warm samples, reagents and media to a set temperature and keep them there, for work such as thawing, melting agar, conditioning specimens and running reactions that must stay at one temperature. The bath is filled with water, the temperature is set on the PID controller, and the stirrer, adjusted from the front panel regulator, keeps the water moving so that the reading from the PT-100 sensor holds for the whole tank. Containers stand in the water with the flat lid closed to cut evaporation, the side window lets them be checked without lifting the lid, and the drain plug empties the tank after use.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of water baths required.
- Capacity and heating — the tank size between 8 and 30 litre and the 1.5 or 2.0 kW heating to go with it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How closely is the water temperature held?
The PT-100 sensor and microprocessor based PID controller hold the water to within ±0.2 °C, over a range from ambient +5 °C to 95 °C.
What capacities are available?
The bath is offered in capacities from 8 to 30 litre with 1.5/2.0 kW heating, and the dimensions given are 430 × 240 × 265 mm.
Why does the bath have a stirrer?
The stainless steel FHP motor stirring shaft keeps the water moving, so the temperature is the same throughout the tank; its speed is set on the front panel regulator.
How is evaporation kept down?
A flat stainless steel lid covers the bath to prevent evaporation, and mineral wool insulation between the outer body and the tank reduces heat loss through the double wall.
Can the samples be seen without opening the lid?
Yes. A glass window on one side lets the samples placed in the bath be seen while the lid stays closed.
What is the tank made of?
The inner tank and lid are 304 grade stainless steel, the outer chamber is powder coated mild steel, and a drain plug is fitted for cleaning.
